Big Little Sister

My sweet Lucina.

Today you made me cry.

AJ was running and took a scary fall.

He hit his mouth on the hard floor.

I was sitting with you on the sofa and honestly can’t remember what you were showing me.

I’m sorry I can’t remember what was so important to you.

When all eighty-four pounds of your brother went flying and crashing, I leaped up in a second.

I left you to tend to him.

You did not care.

You somehow knew how bad of a fall it was.

You were right behind me leaping off the sofa.

I picked up AJ and was consoling him.

Next thing I see is your little body right next to us.

You were crying because your big brother was hurt.

You were distraught because he hit his mouth.

You wrapped your arms around his leg and gave him a hug.

“AH!” you said as you let go of his leg.

You sprinted to your room and came back with a cloth headband.

I was still calming AJ down when you squeezed right in.

You took your beloved purple headband, wiped his thigh, and gave it an “all better” kiss.

My sweet Lucina.

You were not a two-year-old upset mom left you on the sofa.

You were a big little sister.

You sprang into action to care for your older brother.

AJ is eighty-four pounds and four feet tall.

You are thirty-three pounds and about two and a half feet tall.

My sweet Lucina.

Your pure heart made me cry.

I wish everyone in the world could be touched by your energy.

Every other two-year-old wouldn’t care much if their six-year-old brother got hurt.

You don’t know how much older AJ is because he is delayed in some areas.

You see him as your big little brother.

You will tell people to stop if they are mean to him.

You push him on the scooter if he doesn’t move his feet.

My sweet Lucina.

You are a caring, beautiful soul.

You jump into caregiver role so easily.

I don’t want you to, but I understand that’s natural for you.

Your light and compassion brought me to tears today.

You may forever be the big little sister to AJ.

Somehow, I don’t think you mind one bit.

My sweet Lucina.

Mom loves you so much.
